This is why I often try to make things - jam, cookies, whatever - then it's something tangible, but also something that gets used up! Of course, that also requires a bit of time and effort... but the thought of five billion people exchanging bits of plastic is just a bit much! It's nice to find ways around it. alison.Alison Sampsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04492848177186327971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1839440111268667274.post-10680114040600724132012-12-09T22:46:21.853+11:002012-12-09T22:46:21.853+11:00hey Alison,

Oh, the people who get them are quite happy, and the related tax deduction is nice, but I just don't feel like I've 'given' to the person, only to the charity. So I still want to actually hand something over to each person that says 'I care enough to want to offer something I chose for you'. Does that sound silly? <br />Anyway, what you've written here has given me an idea... Love, Jan. Ghastly things. We still use your beautiful Christmas stockings, and I have made new ones for each new arrival to our family - one of my very few attempts at being crafty! They hold many happy memories of gentle Christmas Days with family friends. We do the family roster for the next two generations and my siblings exchange home cooking, or in my case circulate a box of my Redbubble cards for people to pick some they could use. I really like transient or useful presents. Can't bear 'gift shops' full of baubles no one needs and most won't want. I won't go into ant shopping centre either, and just shop incidentally at local shops when getting fruit and veggies, stamps etc. I do cards in whatever form people seem to like - real, email etc. but I do love the international Christmas stamps this year - have you seen them? We get a living tree which lasts 4-5 years before needing to be planted out, and since being in Switzerland one Christmas use real tree candles! They have to be watched carefully but stockings with friends with the candles lit is the magical bit if Christmas for me now the Whitlet carols are no longer. JeanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
